Founding document
Constitution of Marie Landry Spy Shop
Preamble
Marie Landry Spy Shop exists to bring verified open-source evidence of grave wrongdoing to light, free of charge, for the public good.
We adopt this Constitution to bind our work to law, evidence and human dignity. It governs every investigation, publication, tool and partnership carried out under the Spy Shop’s name. Where this Constitution and any other Spy Shop policy conflict, this Constitution prevails.
Article IName, identity and status
- Name. The organization is Marie Landry Spy Shop, also known as Marie Landry’s Spy Shop, at MarieLandrySpyShop.com.
- Status. The Spy Shop is a division of Landry Industries (LandryIndustries.ca), based in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. It operates as a fully virtual platform.
- Identity. The Spy Shop is an OSINT spy agency and spy shop. It publishes open-source intelligence, research, tools and reviews.
- What it is not. The Spy Shop is not a private investigation agency, a police force or a government intelligence service. It never presents itself as any of these.
- The Spymaster. Marie-Soleil Seshat Landry, founder, leads the Spy Shop as its Spymaster. “Spymaster” and “spy” are titles of craft, not claims of official authority.
Article IIMission and purpose
Mission. To empower individuals and organizations with ethical OSINT solutions, while upholding the highest standards of legality and ethics.
Vision. To be the global leader in ethical intelligence, guided by integrity, sustainability and respect for human rights.
The Spy Shop pursues its mission through five purposes:
- Investigate and expose grave crimes of public concern, such as war crimes and human rights abuses, using open-source evidence.
- Publish free research, methods, guides and datasets for the public.
- Teach ethical OSINT to journalists, researchers, activists and security professionals.
- Build AI tools and applications that make intelligence work more verifiable.
- Fund its independence through a transparent affiliate model.
Article IIIFounding principles
Eight principles guide every decision the Spy Shop makes. When they pull in different directions, Do No Harm comes first.
- Do No Harm. No investigation or publication may put a victim, witness or bystander at risk.
- Respect for human rights. The Spy Shop’s work serves the dignity and rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- Integrity. The Spy Shop reports what the evidence shows, including findings it did not expect or want.
- Truth before narrative. Every fact is retrieved, stored and cited, following Seshat’s Axiom (Retrieve = Store = Cite).
- Scientific method. Work follows the Scientific Investigative 10-Step Loop. A hypothesis the evidence contradicts is rejected.
- Empathy and kindness. People affected by the crimes under investigation are treated with care in every word published.
- Vegan worldview. The Spy Shop extends its ethic of non-harm to animals and avoids partners that conflict with it.
- Sustainability. The Spy Shop favours organic, sustainable and open solutions in its operations and partnerships.
Article IVScope of operations
The Spy Shop investigates grave public wrongs for free and earns its living elsewhere.
- Free investigations only. The Spy Shop accepts no fee, payment or other reward for any investigation. This includes ad or affiliate income tied to a specific investigative report.
- Subject matter. Investigations focus on grave crimes of public concern: war crimes, crimes against humanity and serious human rights abuses.
- Subjects. Investigations examine states, armed groups, organizations and public figures acting in public roles. A private individual is examined only when directly implicated in such a crime.
- Excluded work. The Spy Shop does not investigate private individuals for private purposes. That includes relationships, personal disputes, tenant screening, employment screening and background checks.
- Other activities. Outside investigations, the Spy Shop publishes research, teaches OSINT, develops AI tools and apps, reviews products, and offers services unrelated to investigations.
- Paid investigations. No paid investigation service may be offered until the Spymaster has written confirmation of the licensing rules that apply, under the New Brunswick Private Investigators and Security Services Act and any other relevant law.
Article VInvestigative standards
Every investigation follows the Berkeley Protocol on Digital Open Source Investigations, the international standard published in 2020 by UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Center with the UN human rights office.
- Open sources only. The Spy Shop collects only information that is lawfully and publicly accessible.
- Verification. Each finding is checked against its original source and corroborated independently wherever possible. Unverified material is labelled as such.
- Preservation. Sources are archived with the date and time of capture, so findings can be checked later and used as evidence.
- Intelligence gaps. What cannot be lawfully obtained or verified is logged as an Intelligence Gap, never filled with speculation.
- AI assistance. AI-assisted analysis is disclosed. Every AI output is verified against primary sources before publication. AI is never the sole source of a finding.
- Language. Findings are presented as evidence and allegations, attributed to their sources. No person is declared guilty of a crime unless a court has so found.
- Right of reply. Where it is safe and practical, named subjects are invited to respond before publication.
Article VIProtection of people, privacy and safety
The safety of victims and witnesses outranks the value of any finding.
- Victims and witnesses. The Spy Shop never publishes information that could identify a victim, witness, minor or source at risk.
- Graphic material. Graphic images are blurred or withheld, and readers are warned before distressing content.
- Privacy. The Spy Shop collects only the personal information an investigation needs and follows Canadian privacy law. It never publishes dossiers on private individuals.
- Investigator safety. The Spymaster protects her own digital, physical and psychological safety through sound operational security and rest.
- Corrections. Errors are corrected promptly and visibly, with the date and nature of the correction noted on the page.
Article VIIIndependence, funding and transparency
No funder, partner or advertiser influences what the Spy Shop investigates or finds.
- Funding. The Spy Shop is funded by affiliate commissions, advertising on general content, digital products and services unrelated to investigations.
- Clean reports. Investigative reports carry no advertising and no affiliate links.
- Affiliate disclosure. Affiliate links are disclosed in plain words next to the links, and in full on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
- AI disclosure. AI-assisted content is labelled, with a warning that it may contain errors.
- Conflicts of interest. Any personal or financial link to a subject of investigation is disclosed in the report, or the Spymaster steps back from it.
- Partners. Affiliate partners must be lawful and consistent with Article III. Products that enable covert surveillance of people without their consent are not promoted.
